Mothering Sunday…

Anemones bouquet

Mother’s day is just around the corner, which got me thinking about what I would really like this year. The main things I suppose money can’t buy, a lie in, a shower in peace, the beds made for me, the school uniforms and lunches all ironed and prepared. BUT, a beautiful bunch of flowers is always well received and Marks and Spencer’s have some magnificent bouquets, which can be delivered free between the 21st-28th of March with many having chocolates worth £5 included. These are stunning (and how good would they smell), as are these and these.

These pyjamas would be very well received (available in white if you dare) and I am a sucker for fabulous skin care and there is not much better than the Nuxe range of products, their oil is amazing. Passionate about the infinite power of plants and convinced that the major therapeutic discoveries originated from the world of plants, Aliza Jabès wanted to create a natural cosmetics brand inspired from the pharmaceutical approach and adapted to cosmetics. NUXE products reflect a harmonic balance between nature, efficacy and sensoriality.

This gift set is called ‘The Dream’  and it really is! Don’t believe me read the reviews, everyone is raving about it.

This candle has been hinted at, I’m totally in need of a de-stress! Or how about this one to help you sleep. NEOM fragrances are made from organic ingredients and pure essential oils to create beautiful scents which have aroma therapeutic qualities. A candle really does make you feel happier and more relaxed, dont you think?

Summer skin prep…

It’s that time of year when we need to get our pasty white winter skin out as the sun has decided to show its face. So before I don my vest tops and shorts I like to do a bit of skin prep! I thought I would share some of my favourite products with you.

1. E45 Silky Radiance Body Lotion £3.99

If I suddenly have to show some skin, this is fabulous. It leaves a slight shimmer on the skin that’s forgiving on blemishes, veins or dryness. Definitely one to have in the bathroom cabinet.

2. Fake Bake Beyond Bronzer Wash-Off Tan £7

This is a summer must have. This wash off tan is natural, streak free and doesn’t stain. It is the easiest way to create a temporary, instant glamorous and golden tanned look.

3. Fake Bake Faux Glo Instant Tan £13.50

As it’s a spray this is so easy to put on and is so much better than other self tans I’ve tried. It comes off easily with soap and water.

4. Garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer £9.75

It does what it says on  the label. It gives an even streak free tan and is also very moisturising, which I like. The spray application works at any angle making it easy to apply.

5. Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel £20

I love this self tanner, it doesn’t smell great but gives an even, real looking tan. Make sure you rub it in well so it really sinks into the skin. It really is fab and is strong enough to only need applying once, maybe twice a week.

6. Decleor Aroma Sun Expert £20.30

This gives more colour in one go than the others and so again only needs to be applied once a week, possibly two. This is in my opinion is one of the best tanners and smells OK too.

St Tropez Gradual Tan £20 This is a fabulous every day tanner as it goes on easily and doesn’t leave streaks (honestly I think its impossible to get streaks from this). Its a moisturiser perfect for achieving an all year round summer glow.

Beauty in a rush…

For me, mornings are about getting out of the house quickly. I am someone who would definitely prefer the extra 10 minutes in bed rather than to get up earlier to do my make-up and hair. The products above are some of my saviours.

The Palmolive Naturals Shower Cream is fabulous, it has a beautiful smell and thoroughly cleanses and moisturises, unlike many expensive shower gels I have had. I think showers can be cheap whilst a bath should be luxurious.

Nivea’s in-shower moisturiser is brilliant. It goes on last, after shower gel and then you just massage this all over your body! It’s then washed off,  leaving behind a beautiful coating of almond oil which sinks in really well. It works very much like Aqueous cream but doesn’t have the terrible smell. If you have dry skin, try it, I think you’ll be impressed.

Batiste Dry Shampoo has to be the best invention EVER! I use bottles of the stuff, but if it stops me having to wash and dry my hair in a morning, it’s worth it! That saves me at least an hour! This bottle of talc adds volume to your hair, makes it manageable for up do’s and saves you a day between washes. I no longer wash my hair every day, sometimes not even every two days.

Mark Hill Holiday Hair Beach Babe Sea Salt Wave Spray gives life back to hair! I use this when I  curl my hair, at the end, to make the waves look more natural, but I also use it when my hair is wet/damp to give it some texture. I get out of the shower, spray this all over haphazardly and then blast my hair with the hair-dryer. If I’m using it on my dry hair I just spray it on and mess it up a bit with my hands and it seems to revive it between washes.

A red lip…

A red lip

With Valentine’s just around the corner I thought I’d talk about a red lip. I love a red lip, and yes I love it with a black dress or a smart going out outfit, but when I truly think it looks fabulous is when you are dressed in your jeans, grey sweater, casual, with natural make-up and a beautiful red lip. It just looks so amazing. In this post I thought we’d go through the different reds that I love and have been wearing.

There are supposedly rules to wearing red lips. Warm orange toned reds work better on yellow based skin tones (olive skin). Whilst cool toned reds can look better with a pale skin. I think this is true to a point but some cool toned reds look fabulous with olive skin, They make the teeth seem whiter and the colour ‘pop’ and vice versa. You also have to consider what the colour of your skin is when you have your foundation on, as you may have covered up the redness and given your skin some warmth.

Here are some of my favourite reds (I have quite a few!)

Warm Orange Toned Reds:

Mac Lady Danger lipstick: This has a matte texture so is long lasting. I wear this a lot, I love it. It’s a classic.

Georgio Armani Rouge d’Armni Lipstick-401: This is a vibrant orangey red and looks amazing on blondes as well as brunettes, but really good on a blonde! It has a matte finish.

Chanel Rouge Allure Incandescent 97: This has a beautiful shiny finish to it unlike the matt ones above. It is an orangey fiery red. Perfect for olive skin. I couldn’t find a link to this on-line but it should be in-store.

Cool Tone Reds

Cool tone reds are supposedly for pale skin, however I think they can look good with olive skin for a wow factor. These next lipsticks I think work on both.

Tom Ford Cherry Lush: This really does make teeth appear white and bright. A beautiful classy red, expensive but worth the treat.

Lancome L’absolu Rouge-Rubis Exquis 182: This is a blueish pinky red and looks good on all skin tones.  I like the texture and the ‘pop’ it gives my face.

Maybelline Non stop red 510-Super stay 14hr Lipstick: This is the pinkest of them all and at the moment it’s my favourite. I’ve been wearing it a lot. It’s the longest lasting and it gives the sallowness of yellow/olive skin the brightness it needs.

Maybelline also do this one which is more of a neutral version. It’s very bright and intense.

Neutral Reds:

These go with all skin tones.

Mac Lipstick Ruby Woo: I think this suits so many people. It’s fabulous on dark skin but in my opinion just as beautiful on pale skin. It’s very matte.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Colour Fatel Red 530: This has a creamy shiny finish and is a lovely colour.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Fine and Ice: This has been around years, it’s a neon red, very bright and seems to change on all different skin tones so that’s probably why it’s been around for so long! So good and suits everyone. I love it!

Dark Reds:

Dark skin tones.

Nars Red Lizard: This is a semi matte lipstick. It’s rich and looks gorgeous. I wear this a lot!

Mac Lipstick Russion Red: This again is a classic and looks good on both dark and fair skin.

Revlon Matte Lipstick Really Red 006: Beautiful rich red, again good on fair and dark skin. This is very bright and makes lips ‘pop’. I love these Revlon lipsticks.

Finally a sheer texture red lip. These are more lightweight and you can see more of your skin texture with them. I like the No 7 Sheer Temptations-Glam: This is a beautiful Pinkish red, works on all skin tones and is more lightweight than all the previous reds.

Phew, I’m done.

All things grey…

I’m loving  grey at the minute, it goes with most things beautifully and looks so expensive. So on this post I thought I’d show you all my favourite grey things. I’m loving the above jumper from Boden.

This is a bargain, but also a favourite from M&S

I LOVE this faux leather jacket from Oasis

This merino sweater from Gap (in the sale).

These grey ripped Jamie jeans from Topshop

and finally this Barry M chai grey nail polish.

PS; Just been informed the M&S jumper is out of stock, oops sorry it wasn’t when I wrote the post. I’m also loving this Gap one as an alternative.

More beauty products…

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

This is another selection of products that I love and use on a regular basis, all at reasonable prices.

1. Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Dry Body Lotion 250 ml This is a fantastic body lotion for dehydrated skin. I love the stuff and go through many bottles. I stock up when it’s on offer!

2. L’oréal Elvive Fibrology shampoo and conditioner  This claims to expand each hair cumulatively, by forming bonds with proteins in the hair shaft. I found that this does make fine hair seem thicker. I noticed a difference after one wash, an even better one after three or four washes. It really did work! It doesn’t seem to leave my hair as soft and shiny as others, but this is probably the benefit because anyone with fine hair knows that softness means floppiness and that makes matter worse. It’s no good for the naturally curly as it contains sulfates, but for the fine and thinning I think it’s fantastic.

3.Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Anti-Aging Smoothing Lotion 250ml A total bargain and extremely effective. It has a very distinctive smell, I don’t mind this,  but just in case, I  apply it all over at bedtime when it doesn’t matter.

4. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Bubbling Bath  I love a bath and this makes it even more of a pleasure. It bubbles well, which I like, it smells divine and it’s like having a bath in silk. It honestly is a beautiful experience.

Bargain Products

photo (2)I am hugely into products and am always trying out new ones, however these ones I always stick with.  They are bargains but do the job. The Good Things exfoliator I tend to do once a week and I don’t rub it, just smooth it over my face before splashing it off with some water.  It smells amazing. The Garnier Micellar Cleansing water, I believe, is every bit as good as Bioderma sensibio H20 at removing make-up, but both are fab. The Herbal essences intensive mask, leaves hair silky smooth and smells divine. Again I tend to do this once a week. Finally the Garnier body scrub, for your body not your face, this is gentle yet effective. I usually do this in the shower before moisturising and it has really helped to make my skin feel silky smooth. Try at your leisure and let me know your thoughts.
