Soap is one of the most basic personal care items that we all use on a regular basis. Yet the majority of soaps that we are using today are extremely destructive to our skin, and our overall health, (as I stated within this post, our skin is our largest organ and absorbs everything we put on it). They are based on various petrochemical compounds that are drying and irritating, and include various chemical foaming agents, dyes, fragrances and preservatives. For anyone who wants to support their skin and overall health, conventional soap, whether in solid or liquid form is just not good. A soap I am loving (and has been trusted for decades) is Dr. Bronner’s magic soaps.
Dr. Bronner’s was started by Emmanuel Bronner in Germany. Renowned for their quality, versatility and eco-friendliness, the product line has grown from soaps to include other personal care products. His mission wasn’t just about quality, natural soap, but about world peace and environmental sustainability as well.
Dr.Bronner’s soaps are all created based on simple, old fashion formulas that include a combination of organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba and hemp oils, together with pure essential oils. The main oils which are sourced from abroad like coconut, palm and olive are fair trade certified.
The soaps come in liquid or solid bar form, with several varieties to choose form: lavender, peppermint, almond, tea tree, rose, citrus orange, and unscented baby mild. Dr. Bronner’s claim there are at least 18 different uses for their liquid castile soaps. The list includes face and body wash, shampoo, cleansing baths, shaving, toothpaste, foot baths, clearing congestion, cleaning dishes, washing clothes, mopping, all purpose cleaning, windows, toilet cleaning, fruit and vegetable rinse, dog washing and bug spray.
I have been using Dr. Bronner’s soaps for around a year. I have tried and loved the unscented baby mild (fabulous for the kids), tea tree, lavender and peppermint. All are amazing. I have been using the liquid soap as my face, hair and body wash. I just use 2-3 drops from the bottle and lather it with some water. It foams up okay and it cleanses really well. It’s not drying at all and there’s no tautness in skin after cleansing. It’s fab as a body soap, and it makes my skin feels soft and moisturised.
The ingredients they use are hard to beat. The oils used are of a high quality, organic and fair trade sourced. There are no fillers, dyes, or artificial additives of any kind to be harsh on our skin. The scents of all of the ones I have tried are lovely and the baby-mild unscented variety is perfect for anyone who has any allergies or sensitivities to any fragrance, and obviously perfect for babies and children. The peppermint one left a tingling feeling on my skin, I presume due to the menthol. To me, they are as good, if not better, than any commercial soap. They lathered really well and cleaned just as I would have expected a soap to clean.
