A fabulous book, by the brilliant writer Rod Campbell who brought us Dear Zoo (still a favourite with Bob) and Oh Dear!. Great for little hands and inquisitive minds, lift the flaps to reveal the present Father Christmas has left on each page.
This is fabulous for tiny readers as it is beautifully illustrated and helps with counting from 1-12. This is a story of nature at Christmas which Bobby in particular loves.
Whilst I say these are for babies, Bobby and Daisy at 5 and 8 will quite happily still choose to have these read to them! Others they still love which we have had since they were babies are:-
Little Rabbit’s Christmas (Picture Puffin) This is a great book as it is all about the gift side of Christmas. The not so good traits like being spoilt, ungrateful and not sharing! It is teaching the children a lesson that good behaviour and being a good friend gets a happy ending. Cute pictures and a lovely gentle story.
Snow (I Can Read It All by Myself Beginner Books) Such a brilliant winter story about two children enjoying the snow. They tell us in rhyme what they are doing and it is easy to follow with fabulous characters. The kids have loved this since being tiny and show no sign of not wanting to still read it.
Bear Stays Up for Christmas (Classic Board Books) We all love this one, such beautiful illustrations and lots of questions and discussion always come from reading it. Bear gets woken up from hibernation by his woodland friends to come and celebrate Christmas with them. He tries his very best to stay awake and has a visit from a very important person.
The Jolly Christmas Postman (The Jolly Postman) We love The Jolly Postman and this is the Christmas version of it. The kids love that they get to open envelopes which include a letter for baby bear, a game for Little Red Riding Hood, and they particularly like the puzzle for Humpty Dumpty. Great illustrations and a book that will be read over and over. This was a present off their aunty and is such a good idea for a Christmas birthday!
Check out my first Christmas book post here, more of our all time favourites.
Happy Christmas reading
