Mother-Daughter Wisdom by Christiane Northrup.
I recently read this amazing book and I have already started to read it for a second time as there is so much about it that I want to take in and it was hard to the first time around. I have sat here wondering why I think you, my readers, should read it. (It’s definitely not just for a mother with a daughter). I think the main reason is because it makes me want to be a better mother, a better daughter and just overall a better woman. It makes me want to listen to Daisy, really listen, not to what I think she wants, but what she really wants and to help her to decide herself, instead of making a decision for her. I want her to grow up strong, knowing her own mind and body and knowing the right decisions for her in any situations. I want her to know I am here for help and love when she needs me, but that I am ok with her not needing me so much these days. It makes me want to look at my relationship with my mum (we are very close) and understand more about her life and how she got to where she is now. It makes me want to work as a team with these fabulous people in my life. It makes me want to love me a little bit more and be kinder to myself. It makes me understand what each of us is going through in our stage of development and how we can all help each other.
Christiane talks about the different types of mothers there are and enables you identify which one resembles you. She talks about our mother bear and how we instinctively know what is best for our children. She talks through all stages of development starting with preconception and pregnancy all the way up to menopause and elderly mothers. I loved that she talked medically about each development but also from a mothers point of view. This book is filled with gentle wisdom, insightful knowledge, and thoughtful challenges.
